SNCF Gares & Connexions et ENGIE Solutions
ENGIE Solutions supports cities, industries, and tertiary sector businesses by providing them with tailored turnkey solutions to address the challenge of the energy transition. The experts at ENGIE Solutions leverage their expertise to achieve three objectives: optimize energy and resource usage, promote greener energy, and reinvent living and working environments.
SNCF Gares & Connexions is a specialist in railway stations, from conception to operation to commercialization. As the manager of 3,000 French stations, SNCF Gares & Connexions serves transportation providers of all modes, communities, and travelers.
In June 2020, SNCF Gares & Connexions launched the “Smart Station” project in partnership with ENGIE Solutions’ Vertuoz teams. The objective was to create centralized supervision of station equipment. The principle is to connect technical equipment through IoT sensors and monitor energy consumption to maximize station availability for users. The digital aspect aims to reduce energy consumption while enhancing service quality.
This large-scale project will span several years and aims to connect 700 stations across the entire territory. At the end of the project, the Vertuoz teams of ENGIE Solutions will have deployed 6,000 connected devices, processing 800 million data points.
To achieve this objective, several station equipment are equipped with IoT sensors. These sensors collect operational data and transmit them through a dedicated interface. This application, called “Smart Station,” represents each station in 3D and is accessible to SNCF teams through a supervision screen, tablets, or mobile phones. At the station, agents are informed about the status of each monitored piece of equipment and their locations. The remote monitoring of this equipment enables real-time actions. Agents prioritize interventions and can quickly respond, for example, in case of malfunctions.
Adeunis IoT sensors are used for radio links to interface with certain meters and equipment at the station.
They will, for example, allow to:
Track and optimize energy consumption by interfacing with gas or electricity meters.
IoT solution used: IoT sensors TIC, PULSE, PULSE ATEX, MODBUS
Analyze ambient temperature and humidity in a room to ensure they stay within desired thresholds.
IoT solution used: IoT sensors COMFORT
Report any faults in critical technical equipment for the station’s operation.
